General Information about the Society

The Winkler Horticulture Society was formed in 2000 by a small group of residents of the City of Winkler. The intent of the society was to organize community planting areas with annuals to beautify the City of Winkler.

In 2002, the society was allocated additional funding by the city to complete several large community projects and to expand its floral displays in the city limits. Hanging baskets in the downtown area as well as median area planters were installed. At the same time, work commenced on a public garden area, called Parkview Gardens on the south side of Grandeur Avenue and immediately west of Park Street.

Members of the society have continued to grow since 2002 with a membership exceeding 15 bye 2004. Many residents of Winkler continue to volunteer their time separate from society members to plant and maintain public planting areas.

Summer 2004 will see the completion of the Parkview Gardens with an official opening planned to the Harvest Festival weekend in August.

Membership in the society is not restricted to residents of the City of Winkler, although in general, members either work or reside in Winkler.
